Ivan & Melissa by Alwin
As I met Ivan, he’s introducing himself as a chef specializing in Italian Cuisine, once he told me that perhaps the most intimate relationship, each of us will ever have, is not with any fellow member of our own human species. Instead—as you have no doubt already guessed, it is between our bodies and our food. And as I wrote this, I’ve been living in Italy for almost 2 weeks now, I fully understood that Italian had some intimate and personal relationship with their cuisine. And if they ever talked about Italian cuisine, they talk with energetic spirits, with their eyes glowing and their hand do the talk (you know the gestures when they say “Mama Mia” – means delicious) If you ever noticed, they usually do the talk with their hands; as much as their mouths. While talking animatedly on their cell phones or smoking cigarettes; or even while downshifting their tiny cars through rush-hour traffic, they gesticulate with enviably elegant coordination. In Italy, children and adolescents gesture.
